Listening to young people and providing with opportunities to engage positively in the democratic process is a priority of South Norfolk's Community Strategy 2004-07 .
Much has already been achieved by South Norfolk Council, and by Norfolk County Council, both of which have adopted the Hear by right standard for consulting young people.
The South Norfolk Alliance felt that it was also important that young people should be involved in very local initiatives too, such as the consultation exercises carried out by parish councils when preparing parish plans. Such plans are seen as a particularly useful way for communities to identify the local issues that are important to them.
